Solskjaer comeback delayed

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s comeback from knee surgery has been put on hold.

The Manchester United hitman had been pencilled in for a return to action in a reserve team match with Birmingham earlier this week.

That game was subsequently postponed because of the serious injuries sustained by youth team player Phil Marsh in a car accident on Wednesday.

However, Solskjaer would not have been there anyway as he had been given the week off after suffering a setback in training a fortnight ago.

The 30-year-old Norwegian will resume training at United’s Carrington complex next week rather than join the rest of his team-mates on their five-day break in Dubai.

However, it seems unlikely he will play any part in Thursday’s second string clash with Everton and it could be the end of the month before he eventually returns.

“We think Ole did a little bit too much in one day a couple of weeks ago,” revealed Ferguson.

“We gave him a rest this week and he will be back training next week but I don’t think he will play against Everton on Thursday.”

Solskjaer has made just six appearances this term and has not played since his goalscoring contribution to United’s 5-0 Champions League win over Panathinaikos at Old Trafford on September 16.
