Cisse still keen on Anfield move

French striker Djibril Cisse plans to sign for Liverpool in the summer despite reported interest from Manchester United.

French striker Djibril Cisse plans to sign for Liverpool in the summer despite reported interest from Manchester United.

Auxerre 22-year-old Cisse has been a long-time target for Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier.

He told the Daily Star: “I still intend to sign for Liverpool. It has always been very precise with them, although I have signed no deal.

“We all know where we are because we have been talking for a long time, so it is not necessary to talk every week.

“My manager, Guy Roux, has already spoken directly with Liverpool.”

Indifferent form in first half of the season has left Liverpool sixth in the Barclaycard Premiership with a fight on their hands to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

As a result, Houllier’s position as manager has been called into question.

However, Cisse insists Houllier’s position is not key to his Anfield move.

“I still want to go to Liverpool. Gerard Houllier’s position make no difference,” he said.

Cisse has heard Sir Alex Ferguson may be interested in his services, but suggested the United manager would be wasting his time trying to sign him.

“There has been no direct contact with United. I don’t really know that much about it but I have heard something.

“But I am already advanced with Liverpool and they have my priority. I am not thinking about another club.

“If I leave at the end of the season it will be for Liverpool and not another club.”
