Birmingham could face FA probe

Birmingham could be in hot water with the Football Association after referee Graham Barber confirmed he will be reporting a coin-throwing incident involving Blackburn keeper Brad Friedel during Saturday’s Premiership match at St Andrews.

Friedel drew Barber’s attention to events behind his goal at the Tilton End of the ground after Lucas Neill had scored the decisive second goal in Rovers 4-0 win.

The American international then picked up and handed a coin apparently thrown in his direction to the official.

Blues were fined last season after crowd problems during the derby with Aston Villa at St Andrews and one fan was subsequently jailed after confronting Peter Enckelman on the pitch.

Barber said: “There was an incident involving the Blackburn Rovers keeper during the second half and I shall be sending a report including that off (to the FA) on Monday.”

Rovers manager Graeme Souness said: “Brad Friedel had a coin thrown at him in the second half and handed it to the referee.”
