Two United's enter race for Smith

The race for Alan Smith's signature has heated up with newspapers claiming Newcastle and Manchester United would like to buy the Leeds striker.

Leeds and Smith had distanced themselves from reports on Friday linking the 22-year-old with Aston Villa.

But the Daily Star and The Sun insist Smith is unhappy at Elland Road, and the two United's could battle it out for the £9m-rated (€12m) player if he is put up for sale.
