Dundee offer to switch game

Celtic manager Martin O’Neill will decide tonight whether he wants to move their clash with Dundee forward to give his side more preparation time for the UEFA Cup final.

The Bank of Scotland Premier League match was originally scheduled for Saturday, May 17, just four days before Celtic are due to take on Porto in Seville.

But Dundee approached the SPL to say they were willing to help Celtic’s European bid by moving the date of the league match.

Hampden Park chiefs contacted the Parkhead club and O’Neill will now consider whether to give them the go-ahead to reschedule the fixture for the midweek before.

A Celtic spokesperson told the Press Association: “We appreciate the gesture made by Dundee Football Club.

“There are obviously a number of factors to take into consideration and we will be making a decision tomorrow.”

The Dens Park club want to help Celtic lift the trophy and there does not seem any problems with moving the fixture as the BBC are yet to choose their live game.

A Dundee spokesman added: “We can confirm that we did make an offer over the weekend to the SPL to have the game switched to the Wednesday for the simple reason that Celtic’s victory in the UEFA Cup can only be good news for everyone in Scottish football.”
