Napoli deny Maradona Jnr going to Scotland
Napoli have denied speculation they are looking to send Diego Maradona‘s son on loan to Scottish first division side Clyde.
Reports suggested Diego Junior would be sent to Scotland in a bid to further his development away from the prying eyes of the Italian media.
But, according to Napoli youth president Vincenzo Coscia, the 16-year-old will stay in Naples to allow club officials to monitor his progress at close hand.
“We are aware of the interests shown from a number of teams but we are not interested in letting the player leave,” Coscia told PA International.
“He is a good player but he is only 16 years old and I don‘t think this is appropriate. We need to wait, besides the club‘s intention is for the player to develop at Napoli and eventually play for the first team.”
The youngster, whose mother is Italian Cristina Sinagra, has long since expressed a desire to follow in his father‘s footsteps and is a regular in the Napoli youth side, who are currently third in the national table.
He has also earned one cap for the Italian youth side as he takes the first tentative steps towards making a name for himself in a city where his father remains a legend.
Diego Senior twice won the Serie A title with Napoli, in 1987 and 1990.
During his time in Campania, the Argentinian international also landed the UEFA Cup in 1989 and the Coppa Italia in 1987.
