Arsenal now set sights on Premiership

Ray Parlour and Freddie Ljungberg each scored a spectacular goal to win the FA Cup for Arsenal and put them halfway towards another famous League and Cup double.

Arsene Wenger’s Gunners can win the Premiership title as well if they pick up a point against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

A disappointing Cup final was brought to life in the 70th minute when the Chelsea defence retreated and Parlour curled home a beautiful drive from 25 yards for only his second goal of the season.

Arsenal’s man-of-the-moment Ljungberg made the game safe in the 79th minute with his seventh goal in the last six games.

The super Swede ran down the left from the halfway line before also curling a superb shot inside the far post.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger claimed the frustration of last year’s defeat had increased the importance of a win against Chelsea today.

He said: ‘‘We were very frustrated last year and we showed a lot to get back this year.

‘‘We wanted to play a game that showed the character of the team.

‘‘They were two superb goals. Parlour and Ljungberg were absolutely fantastic today and we scored at a point of the game when Chelsea were playing very well.’’

The Frenchman was confident his men could now wrap up the double against Manchester United on Wednesday.

He added: ‘‘We have the belief that we’ll do the double. We have a big game on Wednesday and we’ll try and do it.’’
