A fundraiser has been launched to cover the funeral costs of Kathleen Carey, who died after falling from an upper-floor balcony in Dublin on Monday.
Kathleen, who was in her mid-30s, was discovered with serious injuries outside a block of apartments on Main Street in Belmayne on Monday afternoon.
While the original emergency call received by gardaí said the woman had “jumped” from an upper-floor balcony, they are investigating all possibilities, including whether she fell accidentally or was deliberately pushed.
There were a number of people in the apartment at the time of the incident.
A man in his 20s was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the investigation but has since been released without charge.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told the on Thursday that they hope Kathleen’s autopsy will provide further information.
Until the autopsy results are available, the investigation is being treated as an alleged assault.
A GoFundMe page has since been launched by Kathleen’s niece, Jasmine Carey, who revealed that the family had buried Kathleen’s sister just two weeks before her death.
“We are asking for your help to support our family following the heartbreaking and unexpected loss of my aunty Kathleen, who sadly passed away from a tragic accident in Belmayne,” said Jasmine.
“It unfortunately isn’t the first, we also had to bury her loving sister two weeks beforehand.
“We want to give her the best send off we possibly can, but as we’ve only buried her sister, unfortunately we cannot afford to do it all on our own.”
Jasmine described Kathleen as a “kind, loving, and funny person who was full of life”.
“She always made you smile with her quirky side, she was an amazing person who will be deeply missed,” said Jasmine.
“She meant a lot to all of us we are so sad to see her go before her time.
“She is going to be missed terribly.”
Jasmine said the fundraiser had been launched to support Kathleen’s daughter with the cost of the funeral.
A fundraising target of €8,000 has been set, with €1,325 raised at the time of writing.
“Any contribution, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated,” said Jasmine.
“If you are unable to donate, sharing the fundraiser would mean just as much as any donations toward her funeral. It will be greatly appreciated and not forgotten.”
