Manchester United’s David Beckham is expected to miss the remainder of the Premiership season and possibly the World Cup after breaking a bone in his foot during last night’s Champions League game in Old Trafford.

The England captain was stretchered off the pitch after just 20 minutes following a two-footed tackle from Deportivo La Coruna’s Pedro Duscher.

United manager Alex Ferguson revealed after the game that the midfielder broke a bone in his left foot. Beckham has been ruled out of action for six to eight weeks, making him a genuine doubt for England’s World Cup campaign, which begins in seven-and-a-half weeks on June 2nd.
