Soccer: Vogts wants a Scottish assistant
New Scotland manager Berti Vogts has revealed he wants a Scot as his assistant.
But the German does not have anyone lined up at the moment and is not due back in the country until next month.
Tommy Burns, Murdo MacLeod and Eric Black are among the contenders.
Tommy Burns: The former Celtic manager, who is youth development officer at Parkhead, is considered to be the favourite. Burns turned down the St Johnstone job earlier in the season to continue his current role.
Murdo MacLeod: Former Celtic player, MacLeod was Wim Jansen's assistant at Parkhead for a season and is now a television and newspaper pundit. His big advantage is his fluency in German, which was picked up from a spell at Borussia Dortmund in the late 1980s, but he has been out of the coaching circuit for a while.
Eric Black: Black met Vogts at a Uefa coaching course in Barcelona a few years ago when he was working for the Scottish Football Association. The former Aberdeen star knows the European scene well and has a track record in developing youngsters but is manager of Motherwell.
Alex Smith: The Dundee United manager is the Under-21 coach for the national side and is therefore perfectly placed to give advice about the new generation. But Vogts is unlikely to be in favour of a part-time assistant.
Bobby Williamson: The Kilmarnock manager filled in for Smith by taking charge of the Under-21s in a friendly last season. But he has committed himself long-term to Killie.
Archie Knox: Was Craig Brown's number two and currently fills that role for Walter Smith at Everton. Has plenty of experience but Vogts is likely to want a younger man.
Sandy Clark: Now a television pundit after being sacked by St Johnstone last October.
Billy Davies: Spends his time scouting for Tottenham after being fired by Motherwell in September last year.
Willie Donachie: Assistant to Terry Yorath at struggling Sheffield Wednesday, Donachie established a reputation as a top coach at Sheffield United and then Manchester City.
Bruce Rioch: The former Bolton and Arsenal manager was passed over for the main job but remains available to assist Vogts.
