Galway gave themselves a glimmer of hope in their quest to avoid relegation when coming from behind to beat rock bottom Monaghan.

Stephen Murphy put Monaghan into a sixth minute lead after Galway keeper Robbie Forde made two parry saves from Jonathan King and then Paul Shiels before Murphy shot home the rebound.

Alan Murphy then scored twice inside six minutes at the end of the half to turn the game on its head.

Murphy finished off Mike Quirke's cross to level on 40 minutes.

He then put Galway in front in stoppage time when converting a pass from Mark Herrick.
