Celebrations following Ecuador's first-ever qualification for the World Cup finals have left four people dead and about 70 injured.

Celebrations following Ecuador's first-ever qualification for the World Cup finals have left four people dead and about 70 injured.

One person died after being run over by a car during a street party in the capital, Quito.

Three others died in car accidents in other parts of the country.

Daniel Arteaga of the Red Cross, said: "All these cases were related to the celebrations. Some involved people who were drunk."

Ecuador clinched a place after drawing with Uruguay 1-1 on Wednesday night in Quito.
