Soccer: Fitness deadline for Seaman today

Sven-Goran Eriksson is set to decide today whether David Seaman will be fit enough for Saturday's crucial World Cup qualifier with Greece.

Sven-Goran Eriksson is set to decide today whether David Seaman will be fit enough for Saturday's crucial World Cup qualifier with Greece.

Seaman is doubtful after missing Arsenal's victory at Derby last Saturday with a shoulder injury.

He missed training on Tuesday, although Eriksson has no worries that Nigel Martyn or Richard Wright will be prove a more than able deputy.

"We will see how David is It will be decided then," said Eriksson.

"But we have three very good goalkeepers so it is no problem, we are well covered."

Steven Gerrard and former Steve McManaman also missed a workout at Manchester United's old training ground at The Cliff.

"Steven flew to France for some treatment and he never trains the day after," confirmed Eriksson.

"McManaman has a muscle problem but I don't know how serious it is. We will find out later."

Eriksson remained unfazed by comments from Greek coach Otto Rehhagel, who has publicly written off the visitors chances of causing an upset.

"I know him well," said the Swede.

"He is a clever man and a competitive manager who will want to beat us. He didn't go to Greece for the sun.

"Both Panathinaikos and Olympiakos are doing very well. Greece had a bad result against Finland, which they will not want to repeat."
