Premiership: Spurs to appeal against red cards

Glenn Hoddle is to appeal against the red cards shown by David Elleray to Gary Doherty and Gus Poyet at Everton.

Doherty gave away a penalty and was sent off for a tackle on Kevin Campbell. Poyet was dismissed a minute later for a tackle on Steve Watson.

Hoddle felt Doherty's tackle was ''wonderful'', while he felt Poyet should have received a yellow card.

Referees can overturn their decisions, based on video evidence, if clubs appeal and Hoddle feels the decisions should be reversed.

Elleray told the Spurs manager that he would watch the video of the game.

Regarding Doherty's tackle, Hoddle said: ''Doc's is just a wonderful tackle. There is no pulling on the shirt, there is nothing there.

''It may have looked as if he brought him down, but we've all made mistakes and I hope Elleray sees it that way.

''Doherty doesn't deserve to get a direct red card for that, no way.

''Gus' is a booking. He was a bit clumsy in his tackle. He hooked a leg out and brought him down, Watson has jumped straight back up - it's a booking.''
