Soccer: Villa's Angel on target for Colombia

Aston Villa striker Juan Pablo Angel proved he still knows how to score by netting both Colombia goals in their 2-0 South American World Cup qualifying win against Bolivia.

The striker struck in the 52nd and 72nd minutes to clinch a victory which left Colombia fourth in the overall standings and on course for a place at the 2002 World Cup finals.

Angel has endured a miserable time with Villa since his £9.5m move to the Premiership from Argentinian giants River Plate, failing to score in seven starts.

But he put his current crisis behind him in Bogota and reverted to the kind of deadly accuracy which saw him average an incredible goal a game in 95 appearances for River Plate.

The match also saw a successful return to Colombian colours for wayward former Newcastle striker Faustino Asprilla.

Asprilla had been in self-imposed exile from the Colombia side after earlier stating he never wanted to play international football again following his storming out of the 1998 World Cup in France.

But after rediscovering his best form with Rio de Janeiro club side Fluminense he was drafted back into Colombian ranks in an effort to beef up their attack.

Asprilla created the first goal with a beautifully weighted through ball to Angel, while the second goal came from the penalty spot.
