Doyle’s MLS talks ‘ongoing’

Ireland international striker Kevin Doyle was back at Wolves Compton training ground yesterday after a whistle stop trip to America as he ponders the next move in his career.

Doyle’s MLS talks ‘ongoing’

Doyle, 31, refused to comment after it emerged that he had been offered a three-year deal by the MLS side Colorado Rapids.

But manager Kenny Jackett has revealed talks about the deal are ongoing, with Wolves set to pay Doyle off to let him move as a free agent, if he opts to leave before he is a out of contract at the end of the season.

The transfer window in the MLS runs until May 12 and Jackett said: “Kevin has been to Colorado to speak to them for a couple of days and those talks are ongoing.

“We are know nearer knowing whether it will happen or not. Where Kevin is in it and his own family and his own situation I don’t really know. You would have to ask him.”

Doyle could sit tight at Wolves and see out the rest of his £40,000 a week deal that could earn him around £600,000 before it expires in summer unless he gets a substantial pay-off.

Jackett added: “Our club, their club and the player himself want the best for themselves so finding common ground is what is going on. If he goes, it will be a permanent deal.”
