Gunners will discipline Bendtner for Copenhagen antics
Bendtner was not part of Arsenal’s squad for the Champions League tie at Bayern Munich because of a minor knee injury. On Tuesday night, as the Gunners played out a 1-1 draw in Munich which ended their European hopes, the 26-year-old is reported to have threatened a taxi driver, unbuttoned his trousers and rubbed against the car in a row in Copenhagen.
Wenger confirmed Bendtner, who has not played for the Gunners since February 2, did not have permission to make the trip and would face sanctions.
“I don’t know really what happened because I haven’t spoken to him. The only thing that is for sure is he had nothing to do in Copenhagen. Nobody gave him permission to go to Copenhagen and he’ll be fined for that,” Wenger said ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League match at Spurs.
Asked if this was the ‘final straw’ for the player, Wenger said: “He is at the end of his contract at the end of the season.”
Meanwhile Arsenal will review their medical and training methods after Mesut Ozil became the latest key player to be sidelined by a muscular injury.
Ozil is expected to be out for up to six weeks, with a grade two hamstring tear.
He joins Aaron Ramsey in the treatment room.
Wenger said: “Going into such a final decisive part of the season, we have no (Jack) Wilshere, (Theo) Walcott, Ozil, Ramsey. We went to Bayern with no (Kieran) Gibbs or (Nacho) Monreal. Of course it is a concern,” Wenger said.
“For some, like Walcott (knee injury), it is bad luck, the rest maybe we have to find out why it happened. We’re analysing very deeply to see if there is a link between injuries.”
