Mourinho keeps cards close to chest

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has stressed he has not made a decision over where he will be next season.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of tonight’s game against Real Valladolid, Mourinho claimed nothing was certain yet.

“It’s not worth talking about if I go or not,” he said. “If I go, I will not give explanations.

“I’m working with total professionalism and I still have the same honour and pleasure to work for this club as I did a month or two ago.

“I have not taken the decision yet. First to know will be my wife and my children. Then the president (Florentino Perez) and director general (Jose Angel Sanchez).”

“We will speak about the future after the end of the season. I have a Copa del Rey final and La Liga matches to play.”

Chelsea have plenty to focus on before the possible return of the Special One and David Luiz is determined to finish his second season at Chelsea in the manner his first ended — with a European trophy.

Luiz’s spectacular goal on Thursday night saw last season’s Champions League winners beat Basle 3-1 in the Europa League semi-final second leg to complete a 5-2 aggregate triumph and set up a May 15 final against his former club Benfica in Amsterdam.

“I want one more title, not just the final,” Luiz told Chelsea TV.

“It will be a difficult game against a big club, a great team. We need to win.

“(Benfica are) a team everyone knows. I have Benfica in my heart because it gave me the opportunity to come to Europe.

“When the game starts I’ll forget everything and I want to win.”

Luiz and Chelsea appear to be timing their run of form well, with Champions League qualification the next target as Rafael Benitez bids to finish his reign as interim manager on a high.

“All season we’ve tried our best, but now the team has more confidence to play together and in the philosophy of Rafa Benitez,” Luiz said.

The Europa League is a competition Chelsea did not expect to be in this season and is their eighth and last shot at silverware.

It means the Blues will play 69 games this term, with the next tomorrow against Premier League champions Manchester United.

Old Trafford is game 65 and the 66th follows on Wednesday night at home to rivals Tottenham, with both likely to have a huge bearing on whether the Blues return to the Champions League next season.

Luiz is greedy and wants Chelsea to achieve both of their remaining targets.

After defeats in the Club World Cup final and the last four of both domestic cup competitions, Chelsea are determined to triumph in Holland.

“Everyone wants to play in the Champions League next year, everyone wants to win one title this season,” Luiz added.

“We’ve lost three finals so we need to win now.”
