Rooney ready to return for Wigan clash

WAYNE ROONEY is in contention to return to action against Wigan next weekend.

The Manchester United star has been sidelined for a month with an ankle problem and he has spent the past week rehabilitating at Nike’s headquarters in the United States.

He is now back in England and although he was deemed not fit enough to play for England against France on Wednesday, he is ready to show he is fit to return to action as early as next weekend.

“Will Rooney play next weekend? We will have a look at Wayne. He is back in the country,” United assistant manager Mike Phelan said.

“We will have a look at him and then we will build towards next weekend.

“He has trained very well. The exercise that we have put in place for him has worked well.

“We will assess him during the week.”
