United jump the gun as Ozil listed on official website

THE chase to sign Mesut Ozil took a bizarre twist yesterday when a player profile of the Werder Bremen star appeared on Manchester United’s official website.

Ozil has been linked with a move to United after emerging as one the stars of the World Cup.

Speculation has grown that the 21-year-old, who is also on Barcelona and Chelsea’s radar, is set for a move to United in recent days after Alex Ferguson ran the rule over him in Bremen’s friendly with Fulham last weekend.

However, Ferguson refused to be drawn on the issue when questioned on Ozil in the aftermath of United’s Community Shield win over Chelsea on Sunday, merely stating: “I think a lot of clubs would be interested in Ozil.’’

However Ozil’s appearance on United’s website, above, yesterday suggests the Red Devils believe the playmaker is set for an imminent move to Old Trafford.

That said Werder Bremen are unlikely to be impressed by Ozil’s appearance on United’s website.
