Zidane backs France to see off Irish challenge

FRANCE World Cup legend Zinedine Zidane is confident Les Bleus will overcome Ireland in their play-off battle.

The French 1998 World Cup hero is predicting a tough time for Raymond Domenech’s men in Croke Park in Dublin but believes over the two legs, his side have enough depth to beat the boys in green.

“This will be particularly difficult because it will be a fight there (at Croke Park),” Zidane told France Football.

“We’ll have to resist there and after that, there will be the Stade de France. But I’m confident.

“I am confident because there is a good team. So, we all need to be calm and get behind them.”

Zidane was a part of the French side the last time Ireland met France, when Thierry Henry’s goal gave the French a 1-0 victory at Lansdowne Road in September 2005.
