Dantchev drops Berbatov hint

DIMITAR BERBATOV’S representative will want to discuss a move away from White Hart Lane for the Tottenham striker should an offer come in this summer.

Dantchev drops Berbatov hint

Emil Dantchev, Berbatov’s agent, has stressed the 27-year-old is happy at Spurs and also insisted there has been no contact with other clubs, after suggestions in Italy AC Milan were preparing a bid.

“If there is any interest there has been no contact with his club,” Dantchev said. “Milan is one of the biggest clubs in Europe and if there was interest we would discuss it with Dimitar.

“At the moment Dimitar is concentrating on doing his job with Tottenham. There is plenty of time until the transfer window.”

Head coach Juande Ramos has described Berbatov as the best player not currently playing in the Champions League and earlier in the season valued him higher than the current British transfer record of £30million.

Berbatov has since helped Spurs end their nine-year trophy drought by defeating Chelsea in the Carling Cup final, with the Bulgaria striker scoring the equaliser. Dantchev added: “He is happy but what I know from my 25 years in football is that if a player is happy somewhere, it does not mean he cannot be happy somewhere else.”

Spurs face Chelsea again tonight, in the Barclays Premier League, and Jonathan Woodgate believes Avram Grant’s men will be seeking revenge.

Chelsea need the points for their title bid, while Spurs are looking to bridge the gap with 10th place and eventually break into the top half for the first time this season.

Woodgate, who scored the winner at Wembley against the Blues, said: “It will be a harder game than the final without a doubt and they will want to put that right. They are going for the league title, they’ve always been there and thereabouts and the race is still wide open.

“But we always fancy ourselves to beat anyone, home or away and this is no different. We also want to put matters right after losing at Manchester City.’’

Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson has an ankle problem and is doubtful for tonight’s game while Ledley King has recovered from a calf complaint. Robbie Keane has a knee injury, although Spurs are hopeful of him recovering.
