Rossi signs new United deal

MANCHESTER UNITED striker Giuseppe Rossi has signed a two-year extension to his contract.

MANCHESTER UNITED striker Giuseppe Rossi has signed a two-year extension to his contract. The American-born 19-year-old joined United from Parma two years ago, and has been on the fringes of the first-team set-up at Old Trafford.

He scored twice in a 5-0 defeat of Burton in the FA Cup third-round replay in January, before going on to make his first Premiership start against Charlton in May in the absence of Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was dropped after a fall-out with manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The new deal means Rossi is tied to the club until June 2010.

Ferguson said: “We are delighted that he has signed a new contract, he represents the future of the club. Last year he had a remarkable season and he is developing all the time.”
