Pullout threat averted as Shels free to appeal fine

SHELBOURNE’S threat to pull out of the Setanta Cup appears to have been defused with the news that the tournament organisers have given the club leave to appeal a fine imposed for alleged non-co-operation in relation to television and liaison issues.
Pullout threat averted as Shels free to appeal fine

Earlier this week Shelbourne were fined €5,000 - €3,000 of which was suspended - prompting chief executive Ollie Byrne to complain about what he considered a lack of due process.

In a letter to Setanta Cup organisers, Byrne claimed the manner in which the fine was imposed and publicised was “seriously damaging to our club’s reputation and may have an effect with regard to our participation.”

However, it is understood that the tournament organisers have now suspended the entire fine pending an appeal which will be heard in May.

Shelbourne visit Turner’s Cross to play Cork City in the semi-final of the competition on Monday night.
