Owen issue won’t distract Liverpool, says Benitez

RAFAEL BENITEZ is determined speculation over Michael Owen’s future will cast no shadow over Liverpool’s attempts to win the European Super Cup against CSKA Moscow tonight.

Liverpool have been engulfed in speculation since Owen declared he wants to return to Anfield but if that proves impossible will be prepared to join Newcastle on loan for a year.

Newcastle’s £15million-plus bid, accepted by Real Madrid, further clouded the issue as Benitez brought his European champions to the Riviera to try to add the Super Cup to their Champions League trophy.
