Caley promoted to SPL

Inverness Caledonian Thistle’s belated promotion to the Bank of Scotland Premier League has been hailed as a victory for commonsense by their backers and a triumph for the smaller club by Partick Thistle, who have now finally been forced out.

After Thistle failed with a legal action to have yesterday‘s ballot blocked, the 12 Scottish Premier League clubs voted 10-2 in favour of the Highland club‘s proposal to groundshare with Aberdeen next season.

It was the second time the 12 had voted on the proposal, which had been put forward because Caley‘s ground does not meet SPL criteria.

Caley, the Bell‘s First Division champions, had lost the initial vote 7-5 but Hibernian and Hearts soon set up another ballot, citing confusion over groundshare deadline criteria, and this time secured the decision they had been angling for.
