AC Milan cut Juventus' advantage at the top of Serie A to five points last night as they beat Messina 4-1 and the leaders went down 1-0 to Sampdoria.

Inter Milan maintained their unbeaten record with a 1-0 win at home to basement outfit Atalanta.

Fourth-placed Udinese kept up the pressure with a comfortable 3-0 triumph against Chievo but Roma's Champions League challenge were held to a 1-1 draw at Lecce.

Lazio were held to a goalless draw at home by Brescia.

Fiorentina went down 2-1 to Palermo. Siena drew 2-2 with Cagliari and Livorno's clash with Reggina ended 1-1.
