Keane set to return to full training, says Fergie
Keane last played against Sunderland at the end of August and has been sidelined through suspension and a hip operation.
He is unlikely to play for another couple of weeks as he builds up his match fitness.
Ferguson said: ''Roy will be starting full-time training this week, hopefully by the end of the week.
''From then on we will monitor how he is coming through that part where he has to twist, turn and kick the ball. Keane's anticipated return to action, coming on the back of the 2-1 win over Liverpool, has improved the mood of optimism around Old Trafford.
Diego Forlan certainly knew how much winning at Anfield meant to United the moment he returned to the dressing room.
The two-goal striker was warmly greeted by England defender Gary Neville, who told him: ''You'll be a legend now.''
It was a special moment for Forlan, who has struggled to settle at Old Trafford since his £7.5million arrival from Independiente in January.
Not only did his brace propel the team to victory, it also put United firmly back in the title race.
Forlan is expected to start for United tonight in the Worthington Cup game at Burnley after his two-goal salvo against Liverpool.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes the Uruguayan striker deserves to be applauded for the way he goes about his business.
''We are all delighted for him,'' said the Old Trafford boss yesterday. ''He keeps trying and if you keep trying you've always a chance. The boy has shown he has got character and he will play tomorrow.''
Ferguson, however, has a lengthening injury list with defender Gary Neville and midfielder Quinton Fortune picking up knocks at Anfield.
Laurent Blanc and Juan Sebastian Veron (remain doubtful while David Beckham, Rio Ferdinand, Roy Keane and Nicky Butt are ruled out.
Goalkeeper Fabien Barthez is rested with either Ricardo or Roy Carroll going between the posts. Meanwhile, United have refuted claims by Lazio they had settled all monies from the £16million sale of Jaap Stam 16 months ago.
United, however, say they ''remain hopeful'' of a satisfactory outcome they are still owed £12million.
