Ruud: I would have made Gary captain

RUUD van Nistelrooy has backed Alex Ferguson’s decision to hand the Manchester United captaincy to Gary Neville.

Neville has formally been installed as the long-term successor to Roy Keane, and will lead the Red Devils into action as permanent skipper for the first time against Portsmouth today.

It is a move which will be welcomed by many supporters as Neville’s unquestioned commitment to the United cause has been obvious from the early days of his career.
