Exeter and Wales prop Craig Mitchell has been remanded in custody in Brisbane after an incident in a bar following the British & Irish Lions first Test win over Australia, Press Association Sport understands.

Exeter and Wales prop Craig Mitchell has been remanded in custody in Brisbane after an incident in a bar following the British & Irish Lions first Test win over Australia, Press Association Sport understands.

Mitchell, 27, admitted aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm at Brisbane Magistrates’ Court after hitting Cian Barry at the Normanby Hotel.

Magistrate Anne Thacker revoked Mitchell’s bail after he expressed reservations about his ability to pay compensation at short notice.

He is due in court to be sentenced on Friday.

Mitchell has won 15 caps for Wales, and had travelled to Australia after taking part in their two-Test series with Japan earlier this month.

He joined Exeter from the Ospreys on an ititial two-year contract in 2011, and signed a one-year extension to his deal with the Aviva Premiership club last season.

Exeter and the Welsh Rugby Union declined to comment on the matter when contacted by Press Association Sport.
