White looking towards Europe
South Africa coach Jake White is to use the wise acumen of some of Europe’s top coaches in order to get the better of Ireland in the two Test series next month.
Having already brought in former Springbok coach Ian McIntosh for a two-day stint with the squad, White admitted that he will utilise tips from two other top coaches in order to beat the Irish.
London Irish coach Gary Gold, who played rugby in Cape Town for False Bay, Hamiltons and Villagers, will join the Boks on Monday and stay with the team until after the matches against Ireland.
“He’s coached some of the men who’ll be playing against us this year and he’ll certainly have some advice to pass on,” White told the Star newspaper.
“I feel we’re in the professional era and one must use what one can to win a Test match.”
White recently had a discussion with France coach Bernard Laporte and would also be using some of his ‘useful information’ to get the better of Ireland.
“We exchanged a number of ideas at the recent World Cup 2007 draw and of course I bounced a few ideas off him,” continued White.
“Ireland won the Triple Crown this year so they’re a formidable side. Bernard certainly gave me a few pointers,” he added.
The Springboks face Ireland in Bloemfontein on June 12 and in Cape Town on June 19.
