Rugby star denies breath test charge

England rugby star Henry Paul today pleaded not guilty to failing to give a breath test after being stopped by police.

The England rugby union player and Gloucester centre denied refusing to provide the specimen at Cheltenham Magistrates Court after being stopped in the town in the early hours of March 21.

The former rugby league player, who was dressed in a beige suit with a light blue shirt and navy tie, also pleaded not guilty to driving without due care and attention, not having a licence and driving without insurance.

Paul, of All Saints Road, Cheltenham, was granted unconditional bail and the case was adjourned for a pre-trial review at Cheltenham Magistrates Court on June 2.

Magistrates told Paul that he would not have to appear at this administrative hearing.

The 30-year-old New Zealand-born rugby star, who has an English grandparent, has won three caps with England, two of them in the recent Six Nations Championship.

Paul left court without commenting in his BMW.
