Highfield lead Division Three
Highfield continue to lead the way in Division Three, after they edged out a determined City of Derry 25-20 at Woodleigh Park this afternoon, on a day when seven out of eight home sides won.
Both Ards (third) and Queen’s University (4th) kept in the promotion stakes with wins over Portadown (22-11) and Old Wesley (61-3) respectively. Ballina scored six tries as they brushed aside Naas 38-6 at Heffernan Park, to move out of the bottom two.
Greystones’ ninth win of the season could be their most significant as they dished out a second defeat to former league leaders Instonians in seven days, winning 39-5 at Dr. Hickey Park.
The win sees the Co. Wicklow side two points behind Highfield with ties against lowly Connemara and Naas to come.
Instonians will have a chance to make a dent in Highfield’s hopes next Saturday at Shaw’s Bridge. The Galway derby between Connemara and Corinthians ended in a disappointing 6-6 draw with Martin Foyle and Paddy O’Toole trading penalties.
Both Skerries and Suttonians had wins over more illustrious opposition with Wanderers losing ground in eighth thanks to an 18-16 defeat at Skerries, and Suttonians claimed their third successive win and the scalp of Clonakilty 20-18 at John J MacDowell Park.
In the first fixture of the round-robin series Bruff staved off a second half comeback from Galway junior side Monivea to win 19-13 in Limerick.
