Rugby fans line out for Heineken Sevens
The Heineken Kinsale Sevens by the Sea tournament concluded today.
The highlights of today’s competition included the launch of the U20’s Sevens competition, in association with the IRFU.
Other games which attracted rugby fans included the Senior Men’s Semi Finals, and the Senior Women’s Final.
The South Sea Drifters V the Gladiators and the Marauders V Samurais contested the Senior Men’s Semi-finals.
The final saw a game of tough open running rugby between the Gladiators and the Samurais.
The Samurais, comprising mainly of Fijian ex-pats, put away the Limerick-based Irish Gladiators, with an impressive victory of 41 points to 10.
The U20’s Final saw Garryowen against Old Crescent. Garryowen trounced Old Crescent and ending this inaugural competition with an impressive victory of 63 points to nil.
Team Captain Mike Fleming was delighted with the result, as was Coach Bernard Carroll.
The Junior Men’s Final between Susies Saloon from England and Old Crescent ended with a 31-0 victory for Susies Saloon.
The Senior Women’s competition was contested by Highfield and Whitchurch, in what was another impressive game of Sevens Rugby. Highfield emerged as the victors from this game, and defeated Whitchurch 46-5.
