Six Nations: Craig gets Scotland call

Glasgow Caledonians wing James Craig has been called up to replace Gregor Townsend in the Scotland squad to take on Wales at Murrayfield on February 17.

The Castres stand-off sustained a knee injury in the France defeat and although he will continue his rehabilitation with the squad he is not fit enough to figure in the Lloyds TSB Six Nations Championship clash.

Townsend’s loss, however, is Glasgow-born Craig’s gain and he will be hoping to add to his one previous cap against Australia in the Autumn.

Coach Ian McGeechan also named two other changes from the initial Scotland squad that was named to take on the French in the Stade de France.

Saracens hooker Robert Russell remains in the squad for Steve Brotherstone, who is still recovering from a knee injury which ruled him out of the international against France.

Russell was called up late to replace Northampton Saints hooker in the last squad, but has done enough to stay in the party.

The only other change from the original squad is the inclusion of Glasgow Caledonians’ Gordon McIlwham coming in for Newcastle Falcons’ prop George Graham.
