Cork Con and Young Munster advance but fancied clubs make exits

Holders Cork Constitution and last year’s beaten finalists Young Munster advanced to the Munster Senior Cup quarter-finals with little difficulty over the weekend but Garryowen and fancied Dolphin were both knocked out.

Garryowen fell victim to a fine performance from Nenagh Ormond who built on a 13-10 half-time lead to grab the only try of the second-half and win the tie 20-13.

Highfield defeated Dolphin 34-23 at Musgrave Park with Paddy O’Toole, Mark Dorgan, Dave O’Connell and Peter Martin all crossing for tries.

Constitution trailed at half-time (6-5) but made all the running in a one-sided second half at Annacotty to win 31-6. Max Abbott and Conor Kindregan got a couple of tries apiece and John Poland scored the fifth. Young Munster had matters all their own way as they trounced Kanturk 48-0 and they scored six tries in the process. Shannon were 34-12 winners over Sunday’s Well, while UCC got the better of Bruff by 42 to 24. Cashel beat Thomond 26-12 while Old Crescent enjoyed a 22-0 win over Midleton.
