Anthony Foley’s high praise as Sale Sharks snap up Peter Stringer
Stringer has enjoyed two remarkable seasons in Englandās West Country and could well end up with an Aviva Premiership medal this season ā his club meet Leicester Tigers in the semi final at the Rec on Saturday ā and now moves on to a new base in the north west.
āFair play to the man,ā said his former playing colleague Foley yesterday, āAnd when heāll go there, heāll add something. Heās not just going there to add another year to the CV or tick a box. Heās going there to get into the side ahead of Chris Cusiter, force his way in and extend his career even further.

āHeās fit, heās durable, heās a very smart player. He doesnāt fail that often, he doesnāt break (crack), heās a guy who you can depend on week to week to be in your squad and deliver performances.ā
Stringer is the most capped Irish scrum-half of all time with an impressive tally of 98 full caps and 230 games for Munster. As well as Munster and Bath, he has previously played on loan at Saracens and Newcastle.
Sale Sharks director of rugby Steve Diamond is delighted: āOnce I heard that Peter was looking for a new club, I made my move and I am delighted he has decided to join us. I am sure he will be a great addition to our squad.ā
