Frustrated Wales star Rees eyes Wallabies scalp

Former Wales skipper Matthew Rees aims to take out his frustration on the Wallabies in Melbourne this week and use his experience to help Wales earn the southern hemisphere scalp they have been chasing for so long.

Scarlets hooker Rees is one of three British & Irish Lions brought into the starting line-up for the vital second Test in the three match series, adding more than 180 caps to the side.

“I was frustrated at not starting last week and I am certainly looking forward to playing in the second Test,” said Rees. “There are a few experienced boys called back into the team and it is up to us to take the team forward and make sure things happen on Saturday.

“We don’t want to find ourselves two nil down with only one game to go.

“We are one nil down at the moment and we want to make sure we get something out of this tour in terms of performance and results and there is no better way to do that than win on Saturday.”

Wales were beaten 27-19 in the first Test in Brisbane and have to get a result at the Etihad Stadium, Melbourne, to keep the series alive.

Rees and the two Joneses made a major impact off the bench last weekend and were at the heart of a second half revival that saw Wales cut the gap to a single point.

“We were disappointed with the result last Saturday.

“It was probably a wake up call of where we are,” admitted Rees.
