All Black Guildford sorry for naked bar brawl

ALL Blacks’ winger Zac Guildford admitted punching two men while running naked, drunk and bleeding through a bar on the Cook Islands last week.

The Crusaders clubman was hauled before the New Zealand Rugby Union following the incident, his third drink related sanction in 18 months, and they have called for “privacy and understanding” for the 22-year-old player. In an NZRU statement, Guildford apologised for his behaviour at Trader Jacks bar on the main island of Rarotonga on Thursday.

He said he had no recollection of the night but was embarrassed by the allegations.

He is accused of punching two men, including an Australian man not known to him who was celebrating his 60th birthday.

“Firstly, I would like to apologise for my behaviour here in Rarotonga on Thursday night,” he said. “I have no clear recollection of the events of that night but there is no doubt that my behaviour was unacceptable and I am hugely embarrassed by what happened.

“I want to apologise to the people who I was involved with and offended that night, the patrons and staff who witnessed my behaviour, and the Cook Island people.

“I am truly sorry for what I did.”
