Con ready to rock Cashel in Munster final
Having claimed their aim of the league title and with it promotion to the Ulster Bank AIL, Cashel haven’t let up. They put in impressive displays after clinching the title at Richmond, culminating in last weekend’s demolition of a strong Crosshaven side in the Clubs Cup final.
Darragh O’Brien has been catching the headlines as he has been racking up the points and the Con defence will need to keep a close eye on him.
O’Brien is far from the only threatening runner in the back-line. Kevin Quinlan and Pat O’Connor are also capable of exposing opposing defences while Olly McGlinchley will try to control the tempo from scrum-half.
Cashel are strong at set-pieces with Howard Stanley aiming to put a lot of pressure on the Con scrum while Eoin O’Connor is a good line-out man.
However the back row is where Cashel’s greatest strength is. Brendan O’Connor regularly advances past the gain-line, supported by Kevin Leamy and John Ed O’Connor.
If Cork Constitution win, they will be aiming to nullify their impact. Tim Dukelow has been one of the Temple Hill’s side’s key players in the back row. A hard worker, he will be eager to help his side win the breakdown battle.
Con will also be targeting the set-piece. Young prop Aidan Foley looks a real prospect and with experienced Gareth Murray on the other side, they will feel they’re a strong mix of power and experience.
One man who the Cashel defence will be aiming to keep a close eye on will be Con centre Cyprian Jouve. The French centre will be eligible for this game having started less than half of Con’s Ulster Bank AIL games.
This isn’t the only game of the weekend, with several other interesting ties.
Three finals take place this evening. In Kilfeacle, Clanwilliam take on Nenagh Ormond in the Garryowen Cup final with the Tipperary Town side starting as slight favourites.
There is a double header in Tanner Park this afternoon with matters set to get underway at 4.30pm.
Cork Constitution will be hoping to provide further inspiration for both their junior and senior counterparts as they bid to capture the South Munster Junior Two Cup. A strong Tralee side stand in their way and will be aiming to travel back to Kerry with the trophy.
Ballincollig should have a big support behind them in the following match as they face up to Fermoy in the South Munster Junior Three Cup final.
On Easter Monday, while many Cashel fans will be hoping to be in the midst of their Junior Cup celebrations, they will also be getting behind their seconds against Clonmel in the Gleeson Cup final at Clanwilliam Park.
Next Wednesday, Old Christians face Skibbereen in what should be a hard-fought Cork County Cup Final at Musgrave Park, with little to choose between the two sides.
