All-clear for Reds recruit de Villiers

MUNSTER rugby chiefs breathed a sigh of relief yesterday with South African medics giving the province’s new signing Jean de Villiers a clean bill of health after the weekend’s Tri Nations clash with New Zealand.

The centre was forced out of Saturday’s game after falling awkwardly at Bloemfontein with match commentators fearing a serious injury.

“Jean de Villiers – the commentators made out to be worse than it really was,” Doctor Craig Roberts said.

“He actually just had cramp. He hasn’t played a lot of games of late and cramped up but it looked worse than it actually was.

“He’s fit and ready to play,” he added of the fly half.
