Ulster book place in final

They only had an 8-6 lead at half time, but showed their hunger in the second period with a gutsy performance to reach their first final since the Heineken Cup victory in 1999.

The first score came after 11 minutes when Adam Larkin kicked into space on the halfway line. It looked as though Glasgow winger David Millard would collect, but it was Andy Ward who gathered, got to his feet and released Wallaby wizard Ryan Constable, who went in at the corner. Larkin missed the touchline conversion.

Glasgow then went on the offensive and were rewarded by a Daniel Parks penalty after 23 minutes.

Larkin responded in kind and Parks dropped a goal three minutes later to leave the half time score at 8-6.

Ulster rang the changes at the start of the second half, with Neil Doak coming on for Kieran Campbell, Simon Best for Bryan Young and Roger Wilson replacing Tony McWhirter. Doak certainly got the back line going, while Rowan Frost was now in command in the lineouts as Ulster began to dominate the match.

It was only in the final six minutes that the game came to life. Larkin’s penalty in the 74th minute and his drop goal two minutes later put Ulster in the driving seat but Glasgow gave it their all in the final minutes and when scrumhalf Sam Pinder broke, he put Lamont in for the try. Ulster defended valiantly and looked to have weathered the storm, but Graeme Morrison scored another try and Calvin Howarth converted to make it 17-13.

But the visitors were not to be denied and when Lee Harrison was penalised for using the elbow in the ruck, Larkin obliged with the kick straight through the uprights and a place in a cup final for Ulster.
