Winter break for Golan Way
Golan Way will be given a break for the remainder of the winter before being prepared for a spring campaign.
Sheena West’s stable star ran well behind Riverside Theatre on just his second start over fences and won his next start at Huntingdon.
The runner-up that day, Henry Daly’s Pearlysteps, landed a decent event at Hereford on Monday, leaving West to believe she has a decent tool on her hands for the big races.
Golan Way was entered for the abandoned Feltham Novices’ Chase at Kempton but will now be saved until later in the season.
“I think we’ll probably wait until the spring. We learned last year that he couldn’t get through the January and February ground as he just doesn’t like it,” said West.
“I’m not sure what his best trip is – I’ve always thought an easy three miles.
“Although he’s won at Cheltenham, a flatter, sharper track suits him better so, with that in mind, we’ll probably look towards Aintree.
“The form is all there. Pearlysteps was going to run at Ascot and I was disappointed that was off because I wanted him to run before the Feltham to see where we were.”
