Master team wary of quick ground

Paul Nicholls is concerned about the prospect of fast ground for Master Minded in the rearranged Keith Prowse Hospitality Tingle Creek Chase at Cheltenham on Saturday.

The dual Champion Chase hero made a hugely impressive return to action at Ascot last month and is due to bid for his second Tingle Creek success.

But with the country currently being hit by freezing temperatures, and Cheltenham covering the entire course, Nicholls is concerned conditions will not be in his favour.

“I wouldn’t want the ground too quick, that’s something I would just worry about,” said the champion trainer.

“But an extra week won’t have done him any harm and he’s in good form.”

Nicholls was also able to provide a positive update on Kauto Star, who will search a historic fifth King George VI Chase win at Kempton on Boxing Day.

“It’s obviously a big day for him on Boxing Day and we’re very happy with him,” Nicholls told At The Races.

“The race is three weeks today, we’re very happy with his preparation and he looks great, so it’s all systems go.”
