The Howard Johnson-trained eight-year-old did not enjoy the best of campaigns last season after landing the Arkle last year.

But he underwent a breathing operation in the summer and has invariably run with credit at this course.

Nicky Richards’ stable stalwart Monet’s Garden also goes well on Merseyside and lowered the colours of Kauto Star in this race two years ago. He is back for more as an 11-year-old.

Last year’s winner Knowhere runs for Nigel Twiston-Davies, while Irish interest is represented by Tom Taaffe’s smart Finger Onthe Pulse.

Tartak, Don’t Push It, Kicks For Free and Three Mirrors complete the field.
