Moynahan to take Nottingham prize

Paul Cole’s Moynahan can confirm the promise of his excellent run in the 2000 Guineas by taking the Betfair Conditions Stakes at Nottingham on Wednesday.

On only the third start of his life, the three-year-old ran a cracker to finish sixth behind Henrythenavigator at Newmarket.

He has always been held in high regard at Cole’s Whatcombe yard after a promising debut fourth at Goodwood.

That promise was confirmed when he won on his next start in the Convivial Maiden at York, traditionally a hot heat.

He had been declared to contest the Heron Stakes at Sandown last week but was withdrawn on account of the soft ground and back on a firmer surface for this contest, he can get back in the winners enclosure.

Roger Charlton’s Scuffle looks on a lenient mark for her handicap debut in the EBF Fund Fillies Handicap.

A grey filly by the brilliant Daylami, she made a pleasing racecourse debut last season when third of 15 over a mile at Newbury.

She reappeared over the same trip at Nottingham and had no trouble opening her account, beating Sir Michael Stoute’s Crystal Capella by two and a half lengths.

As that filly has won since, the form has not been harmed at all and Scuffle has the look of a filly destined for better things.

Galeota has been found wanting in better company of late but the drop back to Listed level for the Achilles Stakes at Kempton can see him return to winning ways.

Richard Hannon’s speedball returned after nearly two years off last season and appeared to have retained all of his old ability.

He was second in the Golden Jubilee when Royal Ascot was run at York and achieved a rating of 110 in the process.

After beating Borderlescott in a Listed race at Doncaster last season he was deemed to have performed to a level of 107.

He has not been near that mark yet this year but the drop to the minimum trip and a more realistic level makes him an attractive proposition.

John Dunlop’s Elmaleeha faces a much easier task in the first division of the Bet Euro 2008 – Betdaq Maiden Fillies’ Stakes than on her two previous visits to a racecourse.

She was beaten less than two lengths on her debut behind John Gosden’s Infallible, subsequently fourth in the 1000 Guineas, so no disgrace there.

It has to be said more was expected of her on her seasonal debut at Newbury but she cut no ice behind Oaks-bound Clowance and this looks a completely different proposition.

David Nicholls is usually the man to be with in northern sprints so Tencendur should be backed in the Directors Cup at Ripon while at Fontwell Cove Mountain can bring up a hat-trick in the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Novices’ Hurdle at Fontwell.
