December return for Southwell

December 11 has been put forward by officials at Southwell as the date on which they hope to stage a first meeting on the all-weather track since it sustained severe flood damage earlier in the year.

With the rebuilding and treatment of the fibresand surface well on the way, the date has been selected as a realistic starting point.

“We’re aiming for mid-December. It’s still fibresand and we’ve done some remedial work, but everything should be ship-shape for December,” said general manager Nathan Corden.

“There may be some areas (of the public facilities) that need to be closed while work is in progress, but it’s still a long time to mid-December,” he said.

“We’re hopeful most areas will be open but we’ll take it week by week.”
