Henry Cecil’s assistant trainer David Lanigan is to take out his own licence in October.

Lanigan has spent the last five years with the legendary Newmarket handler and has found a yard in the town at the 40-box Revida Place on the Hamilton Road.

The son of Bob and Deidre Lanigan, owners of Tullamaine Castle Stud in Tipperary, he has also worked for John Oxx, Edward O’Grady and Dr. Vincent O’Brien in Ireland, and prepared horses for various American trainers including Todd Pletcher and D. Wayne Lukas.

Lanigan said: “The past five years with Mr Cecil have been a huge learning experience for me.

“It has been like working for a great friend rather than a boss, and Mr Cecil has been a huge help in starting my career as a trainer.

“It is a very exciting time and I am delighted to get a top-class facility like Revida Place to base myself.”
