Evie up for Falmouth test
Michael Bell expects Red Evie to prove a different proposition against her own sex in a potentially high-class renewal of the UAE Hydra Properties Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket next Wednesday.
The prolific filly, winner of eight of her 11 races, landed the Lockinge Stakes on her seasonal reappearance before finishing seventh of eight in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot.
While Bell believes she ran a solid enough race last time, he feels she will prove more of a force to be reckoned with next week.
Of the Falmouth, Bell said: “It looks a big entry but she is in very good form and the intention is to run.
“She was only beaten about three lengths by the colts last time, and when the race was over for her the jockey put the whip down and let her come home. It was a very fast time too and I think back against her own sex she will be a leading contender.”
While Red Evie failed to hit the target at the Royal meeting, Newmarket-based Bell had cause to celebrate when Eddie Jock defied top-weight in the Britannia Stakes.
His battling success caught the eye and tempted a high-profile interest from Darley Stud Management.
“Eddie Jock has had a change of ownership since his Royal Ascot win, after Darley Stud Management made a very generous offer for the horse, and he will now run in the colours of Sheikh Marwan Al Maktoum,” his trainer told www.michaelbellracing.com.
“There is a conditions event for him at the July meeting over a mile, or possibly a Listed race during Glorious Goodwood.
“We are very glad to be keeping the horse in the yard as he is a real favourite of everyone’s and a real star on the track.”
