Favourites top Guineas contenders
Finsceal Beo and Sander Camillo head a 70-strong entry for the Stan James 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 6.
The Jim Bolger-trained Finsceal Beo was the top-rated juvenile filly last year after winning the Group One Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp and the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket.
Sander Camillo, who is trained by Jeremy Noseda, has not run since claiming the Cherry Hinton Stakes last July, but she is the sponsor’s 7-2 joint-favourite along with Finsceal Beo.
Noseda holds a strong hand with Fillies’ Mile winner Simply Perfect and Rahiyah also entered in the mile Classic.
Aidan O’Brien, who hit the bullseye with Virginia Waters in 2005, is responsible for six entries, including Theann and the beautifully bred Cherry Hinton, a daughter of 1993 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Urban Sea and a half-sister to 2001 Epsom Derby hero Galileo.
Godolphin has two contenders in Measured Tempo and Malaath while Sir Michael Stoute has Shorthand and Kaseema entered as he seeks a third victory in the race.
Clive Brittain also has two Stan James 1000 Guineas wins to his name and his three entries include Darrfonah, runner-up behind Finsceal Beo in the Prix Marcel Boussac.
French handler Criquette Head-Maarek could run Magic America while her brother Freddie Head has entered debut scorer Rakiza and Nuqoosh.
Other intriguing entries include the Brian Meehan-trained Rainbow Promises and the Kevin Prendergast-trained Miss Beatrix, winner of the Moyglare Stud Stakes last August.
Supplementary entries may be made on April 30 at a cost of £25,000.
